Who is the International Examiner?

Erica Reed

In this post we will discuss who is apart of our local paper the, International Examiner, and who they service.

First off who is the International Examiner for and what ethnicity encompasses their reader? While the paper is for anyone interested in asian cultural issues and topics within the Seattle area. The International Examiner’s original purpose was to service the Asian Americans local to Seattle area and provide them with new that could more directly appeal to them based off of cultural interest. The vast majority of readers also happen to represent a high amount of Asian and Pacific Islanders. One could conclude that they are successfully serving their demographic based off of their purpose and the data pulled on their readers.

Age: Readers age is across the board, but the majority fall between ages 25-34. It is interesting to note that regardless of paper or web format, the readers are constantly within the majority reported.

Income: Over all readers are also scatted with the highest perch falling somewhere over $100,000 in annual household income.

The general take away was that gender does not directly influence the content that they are creating. There is no emphasis to reach or appeal to one over the other.

Residence: Their mission is to reach the entirety of what is consitered the Pacific Northwest, and as the biggest Asian American paper in the country they are able to say have successfully complied with their mission. This is especially remarkable considering they also run a Non-profit through their newspaper.

Who is in the stories and subjects: The story specifications can also be found in a few of out other blogs, but mainly they take on local news within the Seattle area, they have a high concentration on topics/ issues/ interests of the Asian citizens and Pacific Islanders of American. Hyper focusing on the Pacific Northwest.

Background on editors and qualifications: Editor in chief is typically someone who has been with the paper for a number of years. They would have brought 2-3 years of previous writing experience in to be considered. It is also preferred that they have as a similar amount of previous experience working with a non-profit organization hopefully writing as well to tie things up nicely.
